Elizabeth A Horan, a founding partner of McHenry & Horan in 1983, has devoted her career to the defense of personal injury actions, including physician and facility malpractice, attorney malpractice, veterinary malpractice, general liability and horse-stable liability claims. Elizabeth has represented physicians in disciplinary hearings before the OPMC and before various hospital Boards of Directors.

She works with private medical groups, in the fields of emergency medicine and anesthesia, establishing quality assurance programs and regularly lectures to these groups, and other large and smaller private practices, on various topics involving medical claims and best practice. Ms. Horan has had an extensive career in successful trial and appellate practice and continues to bring enthusiasm, innovation and careful reasoning to her practice.

Elizabeth received her A.B., with highest honors, in Psychology and Spanish Literature from Vassar College. She obtained her J.D. for Hofstra University School of Law. She is admitted to the practice of law in New York State and the Eastern and Southern Districts of the Federal Court in New York.

Ms. Horan is an AV rated attorney through the Peer Review process of Martindale-Hubbell. She co-chaired the Medical Malpractice section of the Nassau County Bar Association, focusing on organizing and presenting educational programs, from 2012 -2014. She has lectured for the ABA, NYSBA and Nassau County Bar Association on the topics of jury selection, expert witness cross-examination and trial evidence and for various medical societies, including the American Society of Radiologists and American Society of Vascular Surgeons, on practices to avoid professional negligence lawsuits. Ms. Horan has published on medical malpractice law in the ASHRM (American Society for Healthcare Risk Management) journal. In 2008, Elizabeth was named one of the 100 Most Influential Woman Attorneys in the United States by Time Magazine and in 2015 was named one of the 50 Most Powerful Woman Attorneys in the United States by Fortune Magazine. In 2015, she was named a Top-Rated Lawyer in the New York Women Leaders Section of Martindale Hubbell for Ethical! Standards and Legal Ability. In 2017, the American Registry named Elizabeth one of the top 1% of America’s Most Honored Professionals and, in 2020, she was named one of the top 100 Lawyers in the United States by Strathmore’s Who’s Who Worldwide. In 2022 the American Registry named Elizabeth Horan one of the top 10 trial lawyers in the field of General Liability and Medical Malpractice in the state of New York.
